HISTORY

The Costa family’s association with coffee dates back five generations. In the late1920’s Ermenegildo Costa roasted green coffee which he acquired from visitors to Parma in Italy using an iron pan over a wood fire to roast the beans which would then be shared between family and locals in his hometown of Baselica, Parma. Ermenegildo’s son Oreste Costa preserved the passion and continued to do the same together with a local roaster until his immigration to the UK in 1959.

In 1969 Sergio Costa commenced developing his vision of introducing Italian espresso to the UK. His vision and passion led him to creating the infamous Costa Coffee which in recent years has become a global brand.

Launching Torelli Coffee in 2000. The Torelli brand derives from his mother’s maiden name ‘Bertorelli’ and was adopted to honor his much-loved grandfather Aurelio Bertorelli.

Marco and his two sons Alessandro and Massimo continue their mission in providing fairly traded optimum blends of coffee to the hospitality industry worldwide.

Marco is the son of the man acknowledged for introducing the Italian espresso bar culture in the UK.

Equally passionate, he carries forward the determination and vision of his family’s tradition, launching Torelli to discerning and educated 21st-century lifestyles and tastes.

Torelli represents all that is great about Italian style and culture.

From fashion to sports cars, architecture to football, Italy is surpassed by no other culture for its love of all things fine
and a true passion for life.

Flair, passion, confidence, excellence, pride, and strength are all phrases one would associate with Italian culture.

To preserve our unprecedented coffee heritage whilst introducing a coffee offering to our clients delivered to them using only the latest environmentally friendly packaging and equipment.

With the staffs welfare in mind Torelli will provide training academies for both Barista training as well as health and safety courses at a high level and will ensure that anyone who  joins our team will feel part of a family of this fast growing group.

SOCIAL RESPONSABILITY

Social Responsibility is more than just making a donation to some project which the donor believes is needed. We believe it is about working to improve the long-term interests of our stakeholders, being our suppliers, partners, customers and staff. To this extent, our company has endeavoured to work with a high degree of ethics, accountability, compliance and sustainable practices.

Our beliefs and values are demonstrated by having long-term partnerships with farmers in most producing countries by paying fair prices in exchange for a coffee that suits specific market requirements. The finances of a small cooperative do not stretch to new machinery or technical training which will help to increase the value of their coffee, but with a helping hand they can grow their resources and become independent. In many countries, access to finance is not readily available to small-scale growers and when it is, the rates can be extortionate. So we took the initiative to extend cash loans to farmers prior to the existence of the “ethical banks” who now share this responsibility.
